This mid-week ride will be led by Ian Dunckley.
- We will start from the Starbucks next to theA10 BP fuel station (///ballparks.displays.seriously) and end in the car park at Ely leisure village just off the A10 (///diplomats.showcase.fairy). This trip takes us North through the fen roads and the A17, to the A and B roads around and through the Wolds of Lincolnshire with more curves than I can count and roads with very few potholes. There are few 20mph zones and no motorway or dual carriageway sections, roads across the fens tend to be straight but this is not the case once beyond Coningsby where the roads become fluid curving rural roads with rises and dips in the Wolds. You will see beautiful countryside and market towns with a feel of old England.
- We also get some experience of many RAF bases from WWII, a fabulous early brunch at Woodhall Spa and/or a great hot or cold pie at Bardney, then refuel at Market Raisen. Form here if time and energy levels permit we can ride to Caistor, or go direct across to Louth for mid afternoon tea, then a nice tour south through the East side of the Wolds to Horncastle or to the Aviation heritage centre at East Kirby for a final rest and tea before heading back to Ely in the reverse of the outward route, it always looks different in reverse.
- The route takes in Welney, Upwell, Outwell, Wisbech, Long Sutton, Coningsby, Bardney, Wragby, Market Raisen, Caistor, Louth, Alford, Horncastle.
- We will stop at the Tea House in the Woods at Woodhall Spa at around 1130 which I will try and keep open for breakfast, Assuming that you can get a splendid breakfast or something more intricate from the lunch menu.
