SUMMARY:Sunday ride to the Watch Office
DESCRIPTION:Aviation has been a recurring theme in 2024’s busy ride schedule\, and it’s one to which ride leader Graham Maile & tail-ender Peter Grant return to for our final ride of the year. Graham has organised a visit to the Watch Office Bar & Kitchen\, a Grade II listed building which served as the operations hub for RAF Alconbury during World War II. Note that the Kitchen has requested pre-orders\, so please specify your choice from the brunch menu when requesting your place. Graham outlines the route as follows – \nWe start from a new departure point: the Shell petrol station just outside Fenstanton. Following the briefing we cross Fenstanton before turning right to skirt St Ives and pick up the A1123 to Bluntisham & Earith. We then follow B-roads through Pidley\, Warboys & the Riptons to Alconbury Hill. A short ride south on the old Great North Road takes us to Alconbury Weald and breakfast at the Watch Office \nWith breakfast despatched it’s back to the bikes: we pass under the A1 and through Alconbury to begin a loop west through Old Weston & Kimbolton before turning for the Perrys and the southern shore of Grafham Water before reaching the A1 at Buckden. We finish our ride with a hop north on the A1 to Brampton Hut Services. The ride is a little shorter than usual at 55 miles in total \nStart: Shell\, Cambridge Road\, Fenstanton\, PE28 9LS    what3words\nEnd: Brampton Hut Services\, A1/A14\, PE28 4NQ    what3words\nBreakfast: The Watch Office Bar & Kitchen\, Emery Crescent\, Alconbury Weald\, PE28 4XA    what3words \nBriefing: 9:20am      Ride departs: 9:30am       Maximum 16 participants \n

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - CAM ride-in and Toy Run
DESCRIPTION:Given the tempestuous weather\, and following advice from Cambridgeshire Constabulary (who provide a safety escort for the ride)\, the organizers of the Cambridge Bikers Christmas Toy Run have reluctantly taken the decision that the ride will NOT take place on Sunday 8th December as had been planned. The CAM ride-in\, which was scheduled for 8:30am\, is also now CANCELLED \nIt’s obvious disappointing that this is the second year running that the Grinch has stolen the Christmas Toy Run. However\, when this happened last year the event was rescheduled to Easter\, making for a colourful and well-attended replacement. We’ll keep you posted on any updates we spot in the New Year \nPhoto by Robin Jonathan Deutsch on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Ultimate Hearing Protection Systems
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to be welcoming George from Ultimate Hearing Protection Systems to our final Members Evening of 2024. George will be talking to us about the Ultimate’s range of custom-made moulded earplugs\, designed to be worn comfortably under a motorcycle helmet for long periods. The company was founded in 2001 by Dave Marshall\, a biker looking to create the highest quality hearing protection system for motorcyclists. SUMMARY:Motorcycle Live 2024 (visit confirmed)
DESCRIPTION:In previous years Keith Tremeer has led outings to Motorcycle Live at Birmingham’s NEC. Keith can’t make it this time around\, but Roger Taylor has stepped forward and proposes leading a ride (limited to a maximum of 8 bikes) on Thursday 21st November for a tour around Motorcycle Live 2024. \nAdmittedly not everyone wants to ride in November\, but if the weather is kind on the day it should be a splendid journey on the way there. Roger’s planning is still in the early stages\, but he will avoid motorways on the way to Birmingham and will include a breakfast stop. The return journey\, which is likely to be at least in part after sunset\, will use a more direct route \n \nThink that you might like to join Roger?\nClick here to register your potential interest

SUMMARY:Members & Associates Evening
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that Martin Munday\, one of the IAM Examiners who conducts Advanced Rider tests for CAM\, will be present at our Members & Associates evening on Thursday 17th October at 7.30pm at Over Community Centre. His Q&A Meet the Examiner session will be preceded by the launch of CAM’s all-new Members Map. We will also celebrate successes in the Advanced Rider test with presentations to our newest full Members \nMartin Munday was an officer in the Metropolitan Police for 31 years. He served in Traffic Division for 10 years\, attaining Advanced Class 1 classification on both cars & motorcycles. He spent 15 years in the Special Escort Group\, providing high-profile escorts for the royal family\, government officials and visiting heads of state. The Special Escort Group also delivers armed car escorts for high value materials and high-risk prisoners \nMartin has been a member of the IAM since 1997. He became a National Observer for both cars and motorcycles in 2017\, has been an Advanced Car Examiner since 2020 and an Advanced Motorcycle Examiner since 2021 \nMeet the Examiner is an opportunity for Associates to meet Martin\, find out how the Advanced Rider test is conducted and what he will be looking for during it… and to dispel any myths or preconceived ideas which could work to the disadvantage of test candidates \nWhile the Q & A session is primarily aimed at Associates\, this event is open to all and Martin suggests that any Observers present may well pick up useful insights which they can incorporate into their training programs. Full Members are of course welcome\, especially those who have recently passed the Advanced Rider test and may be able to share their experience \nPlease use this link if you would like to attend. Martin is keen to address the matters of concern to you\, so please let us know in your message if there’s a particular question you’d like answered or topic you’d like him to address \nWe expect the evening to end by 9.30pm

SUMMARY:Ride Leader & Tail Ender training
DESCRIPTION:Senior Observer Barry Dickinson presents our final Ride Leader & Tail Ender (RL&TE) training session of 2024. Whether you’re a regular at our Sunday outings or are yet to request a place on a group-ride\, this training will better your understanding of the lead & tail roles and the guidelines we use to ensure our ride-outs are safe & enjoyable. Everyone is welcome and also encouraged to attend \nWho is this training for ?\nAll Members & Associates are welcome *\n   * Note: Associates must have begun Observed Rides and their Observer confirmed that their riding is at a suitable standard \nDoes this commit me to joining RL&TE team ?\nNo – you can come along just for the fun and to improve your group riding! \nCan I turn up just for the Group ride at the end of the training session?\nYes – we encourage both Associates & Members to join us for the ride-out session from 3pm to 4pm. If you haven’t been on one of our Group-rides previously\, this short outing will make a great introduction\nPlease indicate when you request your place if you only wish to join the rideout part of the training \nWhat’s involved?\nThe day starts at 10am and is expected to end by 4pm. Activities begin with Module 1\, which is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation and lasts around 90 minutes followed by a break for tea & biscuits. Module 2 then lasts roughly 30 minutes\nAfter a break for lunch (bring a packed lunch) we move onto the practical\, on-road session – so it’s essential that attendees arrive by bike. If you’d like to try leading/tailing then ideally bring along a SatNav. Current members of the RL&TE team as well as potential new recruits (we’re always looking to grow the team!) will have the opportunity to brief riders before heading out for a 20-mile ride where they will be able to experience both the lead & tail positions. There will be a Q&A to close the session \nPlease lend your support by requesting your place on Saturday 7th September using this link. Remember to state if you’ll be there for the entire session or only wish to join the rideout in the afternoon
