SUMMARY:Final call for the JetLounge
DESCRIPTION:The flight plan for our first August sortie has been finalised – Catherine & Nick will be heading into Suffolk\, passing through  some much-loved Suffolks towns along the way\, including Newmarket\, Clare\, Cavendish & Lavenham. But with no fewer than 246 listed buildings and a recorded history stretching make to the ninth century\, Hadleigh has plenty of charm of its own. In keeping with the slightly out-of-the-way destination\, both the outward & return journeys make use of Suffolk’s less-travelled byways \nDepart             BP Newmarket Road\, Cambridge       what3words\nBreakfast        JetLounge@99\, High Street\, Hadleigh      what3words\nEnd                   A1303 layby\, near A14/J35\, Cambridge      what3words \nDate & time    Sunday 3rd August\, 9:30am  (following the customary 9:20am briefing) \nPilot                  Catherine Ryan                       Co-pilot          Nick Harwood\nCrew                 Limited to 14 in total             Distance         88 miles in total \nAttentive readers might spot a theme in the brunch menu. SUMMARY:Sunday ride heading to Browns Café
DESCRIPTION:Paul Norman leads\, with Alan Triggs in the tail-position\, on a ride into Norfolk for breakfast at Mundford’s ever-popular Browns Café. The ride uses some favourite roads on the way out\, but takes some smaller and less-travelled roads on the way back… \n“We set off off from BP Newmarket Road in Cambridge\, at first folloowing the B1102 through Burwell\, Freckenham & Mildenhall before switching to the B1112 which takes us through Lakenheath village and as far north as Feltwell. We then swing east along unclassified forest roads to Mundford for breakfast at Brown’s Café\nOn the return journey we head south on the A1065\, passing the gates to RAF Lakenheath. We briefly join the A11 at the Fiveways roundabout\, but soon turn off to follow less familiar backroads as far south as Strasdishall. It’s still mostly backroads thereafter as we snake west\, eventually reaching the conclusion of the ride at Fourwentways \nStart                     BP Newmarket Road\, Cambridge  CB5 8AA         what3words\nBreakfast             Browns Café\, Mundford  IP26 5EH         what3words\nEnd                      Shell Fourwentways\, Cambridge  CB1 6AR         what3words \nLimited to 16 bikes. SUMMARY:Group organised ride
DESCRIPTION:Ride leader Peter Grant reprises a ride he led last year\, but with a new breakfast venue this time around. With Jennifer Stannett in tail position\, this ~80 mile round trip heads to Rutland\, England’s smallest & perhaps prettiest county \nThe ride sets out from Brampton Hut Services. Riders head north on the A1\, but turn off at the first junction after just one mile and thereafter should encounter very light traffic as they follow well-maintained\, twisting B-roads through Clopton\, Oundle & Upper Benefield\, under the Welland Viaduct and into Rutland. Breakfast will be at Picks Barn Café. The equally scenic return route winds its way eastwards through Duddington\, Polebrook & Glatton to the B1043 (the historic Great North Road) then heads south to Alconbury. The ride ends as it began – with a one-mile\, one-junction stretch on the A1 – back at Brampton Hut Services \nPlease note: the kitchen manager has asked us to specify breakfast orders in advance and therefore to secure your place on the ride and your breakfast\, browse the menu here and let us know your food choices when requesting a place on this ride (no later than 1pm on Friday\, please) \nStart & end point             Brampton Hut Services         A1/A14\, PE28 4NQ       what3words        {convene in the parking at the rear of McDonalds}\nDeparture time                9:30am         please arrive fully fueled for the 9:20am briefing\nBreakfast                         Picks Barn Café        North Luffenham Road\, Lyndon\, Rutland LE15 8TY       what3words \nThis ride is limited to 16 participants\, so please indicate if you’ll be bringing a pillion. We start in Over’s seminar room with Module 1\, a 90-minute session supported with a PowerPoint presentation. SUMMARY:Sunday ride to the Woodman Inn
DESCRIPTION:This ride will be led by Phil Duffy and tail-ended by Paul Norman \nThe ride starts at Tesco Royston. We head north along the A1198 at first\, before turning left just before the Arrington roundabout onto fairly fast minor roads taking us through a few villages. Eventually reaching Potton\, we turn south to Edworth & Ashwell and continue south\, crossing the A505 at Slip End and joining the A507 at Rushden. We follow the A507 to Buntingford\, where we cross the A10 and join the old Cambridge coaching road at Hare Street. Heading north to Barkway\, we then turn right to Nuthampstead and our breakfast stop at the The Woodman Inn. \nUsed now only by light aircraft\, during WWII Nuthampstead Airfield was home to B-17 Flying Fortresses used in missions over occupied Europe. This is commemorated on a memorial stone outside The Woodman\, and in a museum behind its car park. \nAfter breakfast\, we head south on a twisty road to Anstey\, then on to Great Hormead. Then we head east through Furneux Pelham and Manuden\, crossing the M11 near Newport\, before turning back west at Wendens Ambo\, then following the “road of doom” back to Barley. We re-join the coaching road there and head north to Trumpington P&R where the ride ends. \nDepart                  Tesco Extra\, Royston SG8 5UA    what3words\nBreakfast             The Woodman Inn\, Nuthampstead SG8 8NB     what3words\nEnd                       Trumpington Park & Ride\, Cambridge CB2 9FT     what3words \nRiders must arrive fully fuelled & in time for the 9:20am briefing\nLimited to 12 participants in total.Click hereto request a place

SUMMARY:A presentation from Helite airbags
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to welcome Peter Riley from Helite UK\, the premier manufacturer of motorcycle airbags who will join us at Over Community Centre to offer Members & Associates a presentation on his company’s products. The evening starts at 7:30pm \nHelite was founded in 2002 in Dijon\, France by Gérard Thévenot\, an engineer specialising in fluid mechanics and a passionate fan of light aeronautics. Thévenot wanted to create personal protective equipment for high-risk sports by offering airbags adapted to the needs of motorcyclists\, horse riders & cyclists. The high accident rate in these pursuits led to the first patent for personal protection airbags. \nWe will learn in detail about how the airbag system works\, which parts of your body are protected\, how long it takes to inflate and what it is like to ride with an airbag. There will also be guidance on choosing the most appropriate model from the range. \nWe’ve allowed time for a Q&A session – so please come armed with your questions! If you already own a motorcycle airbag\, please do consider attending so you can share your experience with your fellow CAM members. \nYou are welcome to bring guests – please assist with the room booking and seating arrangements by emailing us at events@cambsiam.org.uk if you plan on attending!

SUMMARY:GolfWorld Sunday ride. 2nd time lucky!
DESCRIPTION:Ride leader Keith Tremeer had this route planned on 2nd February\, but facing the risk of ice on the country lanes the decision was made to cancel the ride and those who arrived at the start point via main roads did manage to have a breakfast prior to heading back home though. Happily here’s a second chance to join Keith o\, this time with Roger Taylor in the tail position\, on this outing from Tesco Royston to Golf World Stansted \n“ The ride departs from the carpark at Tesco Royston at 9:30\, headed for Golf World Stansted in Elsenham\, near Bishop’s Stortford. The route initially takes us through Barley\, then heads south through Dassels to Ware\, where we turn eastwards through Much Hadham & Hatfield Heath before turning north to Takeley. We pass to the north of Stansted Airport before reaching our breakfast stop \nUnfortunately there won’t be time for anyone to try out the driving range or 9-hole golf course before we head back through Thaxted\, Dunmow & Blake End\, turning north towards our final destination at Fourwentways services\, passing through Great Bardfield\, Moor End & Bartlow on the way \nThis ride takes us along predominantly country roads (a couple of which are single track with passing places)\, and there is a possibility that there will be some mud on the surface; depending on weather conditions in the preceding days. \nThe total distance covered is 90 miles.
