SUMMARY:Ride to Earls Colne
DESCRIPTION:Our next Sunday ride\, scheduled for 18th January\, will be led by Keith Tremeer\, with Phil Duffy bringing up the rear. \nDue to the severe adverse weather conditions we have been subjected to over the past week or so\, Keith has not yet had the chance to check out his proposed route or the breakfast stop. However\, he details his plans below\, in the expectation (hope) that nothing will need to be changed\, at least not drastically\, after he checks everything out by mid-week. \n“Our ride will depart from the Fourwentways service station promptly at 09:30\, from where we’ll head initially towards Linton. Turning right at Bartlow we’ll head to Moor End and Finchingfield before skirting around to the west of Braintree\, then turning north towards Halstead and on to our breakfast stop\, the Black Horse Cafe\, located near Earls Colne. The breakfast menu can be found here. \nSuitably refreshed\, we’ll head home\, initially retracing our route back to Halstead\, then turning north towards Sudbury\, then on to Haverhill (passing through Cavendish\, Stoke by Clare and Sturmer) and Linton\, finishing the ride where we started\, at the Fourwentways service station. \nThis ride is open to full Members and Associates\, and will be limited to a total of 10 participants. Total ride distance will be around 90 miles\, with a total of slightly less than 3 hours on-the-road. \nPlease arrive at the Fourwentways service station no later than 09:20 for the pre-ride briefing\, ensuring that your bike is suitably fuelled.” \nStart                Fourwentways Services\, Newmarket Rd\, Abington\, CB1 6AR what3words \nBreakfast       Black Horse Café\, Earls Colne\, CO6 2JX menu what3words \nEnd                 Fourwentways Services\, Newmarket Rd\, Abington\, CB1 6AR what3words \nMenu              here \n

SUMMARY:Meet the Examiners evening
DESCRIPTION:This event is open to all\, but is aimed squarely at our 32 Associates … and whether you’re our most recent recruit or at test standard and awaiting your test date\, this evening is for you! \nWe’re very lucky to have two Examiners – Simon Burgin & Martin Munday – linked to CAM. Both former police riders with a wealth of experience to share\, they’ll be joining us to discuss what they look for during the test\, the common pitfalls and how best to showcase your riding. The evening is also an opportunity for Associates to meet members of the Observer team\, several of whom will be on hand. Full Members are of course also very welcome: as always\, all attendees can expect to pick up riding insights and a refresher on motorcycle roadcraft! \nSince our last Meet the Examiner Evening earlier this year\, CAM has seen successes in both the Advanced Rider course and the National Observer Training Program\, and we’ll start with short presentations acknowledging those individual achievements before handing over to our guest Examiners\, both of whom are keen to address what’s on the minds of CAM’s Associates & Members. When requesting a place\, please mention any points which you would like to bring up during the Q&A session towards the end of the evening! \nMeet the Examiners Evening\, 7pm to 9pm\, Thursday 20th November\nOver Community Centre\, The Doles\, Over  CB24 5NW  what3words    \n

SUMMARY:Shaun Digby's autumn night ride
DESCRIPTION:We’ll met up at Cambridge Services (A14\, Junction 24) from 6:30pm. The 6:45pm briefing is mandatory\, and the ride will set off immediately afterwards. Be sure to arrive in good time with your bike fully fueled and ready to go \nThe hours of darkness add an entirely new dimension to the art of Advanced Motorcycling. By choice or necessity some of us use our machines at these times; others restrict themselves to daylight riding. Whichever camp you’re in\, if you’re an experienced full CAM Member this is your chance to either try a night group riding for the first time\, or get out on a refresher for the autumn & winter months to come \nExtra factors come into play as we move out of summer – fewer hours of daylight\, cooler temperatures\, wind & rain to contend with. But as an Advanced Rider your first considerations will be the Human Factors\, the opening chapter in your Course Logbook! On this rideout you can health-check yourself & your bike ahead of the winter months: how effective are those lights\, how is your night vision\, is it time for a change of tyres\, how warm is your kit? Early autumn is the time to start your winter preparations! \nWith no breaks planned along the way\, I anticipate the ~42-mile taking around an hour to complete (subject of course to traffic and road conditions). Please do consider joining me – Shaun \nRoute outline:\nCambridge Services > Boxworth > Yelling > Toseland > St Neots > Potton > Gamlingay > Gransdens > Caxton  \nPhoto by Erik Karits on Unsplash \nDate & time         Thursday 25th September    Participants to convene from 6:30pm for the 6:45pm briefing  \nDepart                 Cambridge Services\, A14/ J24  CB23 4WY        what3words\nEnd                      Caxton Services  CB23 3PE        what3words\nParticipants        Maximum 16 riders \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Ride to St Neots for a proper breakfast CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:This ride is now cancelled \nBook your place now on our  21st September Sunday rideout\, which sees Keith Bartlett leading and Alan Triggs on tail-end duties. Over to Keith for an outline of the route… \nStarting out as we mean to continue\, we sidestep the A428 roadworks as we leave McDonalds Caxton Gibbet and head to Yelling & Toseland on our way to the Offords and then cross the A1 at Buckden. Pushing into Bedfordshire\, we make a circuit through Great Staughton\, Keysoe & Bolnhurst (avoiding further road closures) before swinging east again towards Colmworth & Wyboston. Skirting yet more road closures we eventually arrive for some good old-fashioned greasy spoon fare at the Market Café in St Neots (named for its location in the town centre square) \nPhoto by Ajeet Panesar on Unsplash \nFollowing a healthy breakfast we thread through St Neots and head out to Eynesbury and the Gransdens\, working our way around one final set of road closures\, and then wind our way through various villages to finish at BP Arrington. Totalling  around 60 miles (in spite of the various detours)\, this relatively short ride stays for the most part on lanes and B-roads. \nDate & time       Sunday 21st September\, 9:30am\nStart                   McDonalds Caxton Gibbet  CB23 3AS       what3words\nEnd                    BP Arrington  SG8 0AD       what3words\nBreakfast: Market Café\, St Neots         Briefing: 9:20am        Limited to: 15 riders \nPlease use this link to request your place!

SUMMARY:Group organised Sunday ride
DESCRIPTION:This ride will be led by Mark Fox and tail-ended by Dave Freeman \nThis route revisits the first ride out this year – it is a loop into Hertfordshire inspired by the wonderfully named village of Nasty. \nGiven that the temperature that day barely scraped above freezing\, the original route had a couple of scenic but more “interesting” sections replaced – but now is the opportunity to reinstate those sections and enjoy the route in its full glory. \nWe start at the BP garage at Arrington and head via Ashwell and Sandon down to Walkern. We then head across country via Nasty to our breakfast stop at Pearce’s cafe on the A10. \nWith full stomachs\, we’ll head north and skirt around Clavering to join the sinuous B1039 and run into Great Chishill. We then head across country to Therfield and then to the Royston McDonalds to end the route. \nTotal mileage is a modest 67 miles – but with plenty of back roads to keep the average speed down. \nThe ride is limited to 12 riders in total – due to space constraints at the breakfast stop. \n  \n\n\nFurther details to follow

SUMMARY:CAM Group rides training
DESCRIPTION:There’s no doubt about it: group ride-outs are safer & more enjoyable for everyone when all participants understand & follow the guidelines\, the roles of the leader & tailer are clearly defined\, and there is a well-structured pre-ride briefing. Since we introduced Group Rides training in 2023\, fewer problems have arisen on CAM-organised rides\, and your feedback suggests you’re finding ride-outs more accessible\, and that they offer an even more enjoyable experience than before. \nWe’re therefore delighted to announce 2025’s second Group Ride training session\, to be held at Over Community Centre on Saturday 6th September starting at 10:00am until 4pm \nThe morning is classroom based. After lunch\, we move onto the practical session on public roads – so attendees should come on their bikes.  The day ends with a Q&A back at Over. \nThis training is free and open to full members and Associate Members.
