SUMMARY:Ride Leader & Tail Ender training
DESCRIPTION:Senior Observer Barry Dickinson presents our final Ride Leader & Tail Ender (RL&TE) training session of 2024. Whether you’re a regular at our Sunday outings or are yet to request a place on a group-ride\, this training will better your understanding of the lead & tail roles and the guidelines we use to ensure our ride-outs are safe & enjoyable. Everyone is welcome and also encouraged to attend \nWho is this training for ?\nAll Members & Associates are welcome *\n   * Note: Associates must have begun Observed Rides and their Observer confirmed that their riding is at a suitable standard \nDoes this commit me to joining RL&TE team ?\nNo – you can come along just for the fun and to improve your group riding! \nCan I turn up just for the Group ride at the end of the training session?\nYes – we encourage both Associates & Members to join us for the ride-out session from 3pm to 4pm. If you haven’t been on one of our Group-rides previously\, this short outing will make a great introduction\nPlease indicate when you request your place if you only wish to join the rideout part of the training \nWhat’s involved?\nThe day starts at 10am and is expected to end by 4pm. Activities begin with Module 1\, which is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation and lasts around 90 minutes followed by a break for tea & biscuits. Module 2 then lasts roughly 30 minutes\nAfter a break for lunch (bring a packed lunch) we move onto the practical\, on-road session – so it’s essential that attendees arrive by bike. If you’d like to try leading/tailing then ideally bring along a SatNav. Current members of the RL&TE team as well as potential new recruits (we’re always looking to grow the team!) will have the opportunity to brief riders before heading out for a 20-mile ride where they will be able to experience both the lead & tail positions. There will be a Q&A to close the session \nPlease lend your support by requesting your place on Saturday 7th September using this link. Remember to state if you’ll be there for the entire session or only wish to join the rideout in the afternoon

SUMMARY:Working & living in Brazil - Keith Tremeer
DESCRIPTION:An evening talk based on the experience of our Treasurer\n  \nWhen Brazil is mentioned talk of football\, Carnival\, beautiful beaches & the Amazon rainforest often follows. As some of you know\, I lived and worked for a substantial period of time in the country\, working in the international banking sector. Arriving in 1980 fresh from university\, my first 12 months were spent in the heat and humidity of the Amazon jungle\, and in subsequent years I worked in a number of places around the country. During that time I got married\, became fluent in Portuguese\, survived Brazil’s extreme bureaucracy\, monthly inflation reaching 60%\, monetary confiscation\, and no fewer than 7 “economic reforms” and 6 different currencies. I also witnessed the country’s progression from a military dictatorship to a fully-fledged democracy\, with the economy opening up to the outside world\, and foreign investment eager to participate in the new-found growth opportunities. During my presentation\, I’ll take you through some of the more interesting (and unusual) experiences\, both positive and negative\, that I had during my 36 years. I’m also trying to see if I can arrange a culinary surprise for participants to indulge in during the coffee break!! I look forward to seeing you there\nAté logo!! \nDuring the course of the evening\, our Chairman &members of the Observer team will present each of our newest full Members with a highly sought-after CAM wuffler

SUMMARY:Group-organised ride to Pebmarsh
DESCRIPTION:The weather is looking promising for our Group-organised ride on Sunday 19th May\, led by Patrick Ryan & tail-ended by Catherine Ryan \nThis 88-mile loop starts and ends from BP Cambridge (Newmarket Road). We head off on familiar roads through Six Mile Bottom & the Thurlows to Sturmer\, where we briefly join the Haverhill bypass heading west. Their website modestly describes the venue as set in ‘an idyllic converted stable in the beautiful countryside village of Pebmarsh’ – and the consensus on a CAM rideout there was that it lived up to its billing! The breakfast menu can be found near the bottom of this page \nThe slightly shortly return journey first heads north through Sudbury then on to Cavendish and Clare\, where the ride turns north onto the B1063 as it meanders its way to Newmarket. The final section of the journey is along the A1303 back to BP in Cambridge. SUMMARY:Ride Leader & Tail Ender training
DESCRIPTION:We learned a lot from the two Ride Leader & Tail-Ender training sessions held in 2023 – the key takeaway that all participants on a group ride benefit from understanding the various guidelines (such as limiting the number of riders to 16\, and having a structured pre-ride briefing) which we have in place. Last year we opened RL&TE training session to all Members & Associates\, with the aim that eventually all Members will have attended\, reducing the number of problems which arise on rides\, and making our outings safer\, more accessible & a better experience for all \nOur first RL&TE training session of 2024 will be held at Over Community Centre on Saturday 11th May \nWho can attend? All Members & Associates are welcome (but Associates must have begun Observed Rides and their Observer confirmed that their riding is at a suitable standard) \nInterested in joining the Ride Leader & Tail-Ender team? Start the ball rolling now by signing up below \nEnjoy Group rides but don’t wish to lead or tail?  By signing up for this training  you’ll be supporting our RL&TE team\, and helping improve our Group rides \nHaven’t yet joined a CAM group ride? Take the plunge at this informative\, free training session! \nAlready a member of the RL&TE team? Join us at Over to refresh your skills and lend your experience to those looking to join the team! \n  \nWhat’s involved? \nThe day starts at 10am and is expected to end by 4pm. The day begins in the seminar room with Module 1\, which is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation and lasts around 90 minutes. A break follows with tea\, coffee & biscuits. Module 2 presentation follows\, lasting roughly 30 minutes \nAfter a break for lunch (please bring your own sandwiches)\, we move onto the practical\, on-road session – so it’s essential that attendees arrive by bike. Although not essential\, preferably attendees will be equipped with a SatNav. Current members of the RL&TE team as well as potential new recruits will have the opportunity to brief riders before heading a 20-mile ride where they will have be able to ride in both the Lead & Tail positions. There will be a Q&A back in the seminar room to close the session. \n  \nIn summary: whether you’re an experienced member of the RL&TE team\, looking to join\, or would simply like to better help make our Group rides safer & more enjoyable\, please support our RL&TE team by requesting a place on Saturday 11th May by clicking here now \n
