SUMMARY:" When Grandad takes Gran for a ride" A talk by John Gibson
DESCRIPTION:  \nJohn’s thirst for motorcycle touring started when he joined CAM.  Married for 46 years\, he and his wife Ann astounded their children and friends when they announced their plan to ride across the USA on a motorcycle. \n \nFollowing months of planning\, their trip begins in Los Angeles where they head North along the Pacific Highway to San Francisco on the way meeting zebras\, elephant seals and sighting distant whale spouts. In San Francisco they have a joyous reunion with friends before they pick up a Harley Davidson motorcycle for the 3\,500-mile trip to Washington DC. Their route takes them through Yosemite\, Death Valley\, Las Vegas\, Grand Canyon\, Indian Reservations\, Gallup\, Route 66 to St Louis and then Washington DC. They avoid a forest fire and a mountain pass blizzard but ride into a Mid-West thunderstorm and dense mountain fog. With wit they share the tales of the people they met on route including an introduction to the American  gun culture and how the early morning sun almost spelt disaster.” \n

SUMMARY:Sunday ride to Rectory Farm Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:2nd time lucky… this ride had been scheduled the 1st of February\, the originally scheduled leader experienced mechanical problems and the venue chosen by the replacement leader was fully booked. Fingers crossed…. Patrick Ryan & Peter Grant\, leading and tailing respectively\, will be taking riders to a locally popular Northamptonshire farm kitchen. If the following description seems familiar that’s because this will be Patrick’s second attempt to get a group there (sleet put paid to his first attempt in early January) – \nSetting out from Shell Godmanchester we first head west\, crossing the A1 at Buckden to travel on the biker-friendly B661\, B645 and B660 as we loop north to Polebrook. Turning east we then circle the Ashton Estate and make a short onwards hop on to breakfast (menu here) at Rectory Farm Kitchen\, a mile from Warmington village. The outward leg is 33 miles \nAfter breakfast we first head north\, passing through Fotheringhay (a village steeped in Tudor and Stewart history) and Wansford. We keep to the west of the A1 as we turn south to Glatton\, then cross to its east on our way through the Riptons and to the end of the ride at Huntingdon Retail Park (located just off the A141). The return leg is 32 miles \nDate               Sunday 8th February       9:20am briefing\, 9:30am departure\nStart               Shell Godmanchester\, PE29 2XH       what3words\nBreakfast     Rectory Farm Kitchen\, Lutton Road\, Warmington\, PE8 6UT        what3words\nEnd                 Huntingdon Retail Park\, PE29 7DZ       what3words \nDistance          65 miles                              Participants     10 maximum

SUMMARY:CAM 30th Birthday Dinner
DESCRIPTION:2026 marks the 70th anniversary for IAM RoadSmart\, but just as importantly and closer to everyone’s heart it is also CAM’s 30th birthday. To start this milestone year with a splash\, the Events Team has organised the CAM 30th birthday dinner on Thursday 5th February at The Royal Oak in Barrington\, with attendees gathering from 7.00pm \nIn a nutshell: we’ve opted for a cosy pub & restaurant which dates from the 14th century and offers a seasonal menu prepared from local fresh food in a beautiful village with the largest green in Europe\, just 7 miles from Cambridge \nThe Royal Oak have tweaked their usual set menu just a little\, especially for us – the booking form has been emailed to all Members  with all the details.

SUMMARY:Ride to Earls Colne
DESCRIPTION:Our next Sunday ride\, scheduled for 18th January\, will be led by Keith Tremeer\, with Phil Duffy bringing up the rear. \nDue to the severe adverse weather conditions we have been subjected to over the past week or so\, Keith has not yet had the chance to check out his proposed route or the breakfast stop. However\, he details his plans below\, in the expectation (hope) that nothing will need to be changed\, at least not drastically\, after he checks everything out by mid-week. \n“Our ride will depart from the Fourwentways service station promptly at 09:30\, from where we’ll head initially towards Linton. Turning right at Bartlow we’ll head to Moor End and Finchingfield before skirting around to the west of Braintree\, then turning north towards Halstead and on to our breakfast stop\, the Black Horse Cafe\, located near Earls Colne. The breakfast menu can be found here. \nSuitably refreshed\, we’ll head home\, initially retracing our route back to Halstead\, then turning north towards Sudbury\, then on to Haverhill (passing through Cavendish\, Stoke by Clare and Sturmer) and Linton\, finishing the ride where we started\, at the Fourwentways service station. \nThis ride is open to full Members and Associates\, and will be limited to a total of 10 participants. Total ride distance will be around 90 miles\, with a total of slightly less than 3 hours on-the-road. \nPlease arrive at the Fourwentways service station no later than 09:20 for the pre-ride briefing\, ensuring that your bike is suitably fuelled.” \nStart                Fourwentways Services\, Newmarket Rd\, Abington\, CB1 6AR what3words \nBreakfast       Black Horse Café\, Earls Colne\, CO6 2JX menu what3words \nEnd                 Fourwentways Services\, Newmarket Rd\, Abington\, CB1 6AR what3words \nMenu              here \n
